As announced before I had a great opportunity to do an exclusive interview with Colton! You sent so many questions that I couldn’t possibly ask all of them, but hopefully we will get a chance to do another interview in the future! Once again, a huge thank you to Colton for being so kind and taking the time to do the interview with us!
Colton-Haynes.com: The year is almost over. What’s your most memorable moment of 2010 career-wise?
Colton: I have many memorable moments but being on The Soup was extremely memorable (getting made fun of by Joel McHale, priceless and awesome).
What was your first reaction after reading LOOK script? Were you a little nervous/uncomfortable with naked scenes? by Lisa
I read it and instantly thought “Wow, this project is so raw and so rare that I would do anything to be a part of it”. So I went in and read with Adam Rifkin. Didn’t hear anything back for over 2 months, then I got a call around 9am when I was still in bed from my manager saying “Remember that show you auditioned for a long time ago… well it’s yours, you work in 5 days” haha.
As for the nudity part, I had no problem with doing it, I wasn’t nervous at all. Getting naked is something that we all do, everyday. The role called for a wild teenage boy who was just doing what most teenage boys do and I was happy to have the opportunity to portray that in the uncensored, real way that it was done.
You said you auditioned for Glee. How would you rate your vocal abilities? Have you ever thought about pursuing a music career? by Mark
I was the extremely athletic kid growing up whose mom made him audition for a community musical theatre show called “West Side Story”. After that I fell in love with acting and singing and continued to do it until college but I don’t see a music career in my future, other than on Broadway. Maybe one day I will capitolize on the whole Susan Boyle genre and do a Christmas album haha… My friends are so tired of hearing me say that I’m going to do a Christmas album haha.
What does your typical day on the set of Teen Wolf look like?
I drive to set, get a coffee/banana/fruit and hang out in my trailer until I’m called to go to hair and makeup. Then I either go over lines, hang out with other cast mates, or play pranks on the crew. I think that pretty typical for any set though. I also fall asleep in my set chair and eat alot of junk food at crafty… not a good habit. Everyone is so much fun to work with and knows their job so well that everything tends to go smoothly throughout the day.
Is Teen Wolf similar to The Gates? by Alex
There aren’t really alot of similarities between the two. The Gates and Teen Wolf both have werewolves in them but Teen Wolf mainly focuses on the lives of teenagers and The Gates mostly focused around a more grown-up point of view.
Of all the shows you’ve been on, what was your favorite?
I can’t pick a specific favorite because they all have aspects to them that I will always remember (meeting my second family on The Gates, and making friends on Teen Wolf and most of the projects I work on) but I can say that your first real job is the most exciting. Mine being a guest star on CSI Miami. I will never forget my celebration moment when I got that call.
How did you get into acting?
I had been doing theatre, thanks to my mom, but one day, I got the bright idea to not go to college and to drive half was across the country to a little place called Hollywood. Little did I know, it wasn’t going to be easy but you have to understand something… nothing is easy. I kept thinking “Everyone who has succeeded, has failed” and Fail might as well have been my middle name. Once I stopped letting people brainwash me (and that happens a lot), is when I finally started acting. I still have a long way to go but I’m happy to have done what I have so far.
How do you prepare for a role?
It varies but beyond breaking down scripts and emotional point of view, I like to find out what makes the character real. The characters I tend to play recently have been fueled by anger and jealousy and that is a basic human emotion that we all have experienced so I look forward to playing a role where I know nothing about the person’s feelings and haven’t gone through what they have in my life experience so I can learn.
What actors/actresses would you like to work with most?
Robert Downey Jr., Sean Penn, Brad Pitt, George Clooney, Michael Cane, Jake Gyllenhaal, Meryl Streep, Kate Winslet, Angelina Jolie, and a few younger actors like Blake Lively, Ellen Page, Dakota Fanning… but who wouldn’t want to work with them!?
Do you have plans for another TV show, movie or any other projects in the works? If so, can you tell us about it? by Logan
There are a few other possibilities but who knows what will happen, fingers crossed! I try to live day to day and focus on the project at hand and that is Teen Wolf.
You’ve done mostly dramatic acting thus far; are you gonna flex your comedic skills soon? by Eric
I would love to flex my comedic skills. I seem to think I am funny but I can’t say that others do haha. I try but my humor is rare and hopefully one day I will be able to translate my comedy in real life to the big screen. I’m gonna need some pointers from the cast of Modern Family.
It’s been a while since we’ve seen you modeling. Is acting your priority right now?
Acting is definately a priority now. Modeling was fun but my days of gasoline fighting are currently over (Zoolander if you didn’t get it).
Who is your biggest role model? How do you feel about being a role model for other people? by Luka, Tasos
My brother and sisters are my biggest role models. My bro Clinton has fought through things that most don’t have to and I commend him for that. He never gives up and that is what I try to take from him. My sister Willow has been in the military for over 10 years now and is down range at the moment. She always overcomes a challenge and never complains about things which I find to be so strong and beautiful. My oldest sister Summer is the rock of our family. She is the go to person when it comes to needing someone to talk to cause she is so caring, loving, and understanding and believes that life is full of many blessings so don’t take things for granted. I love you all.
I’m not sure at this point if anyone finds me to be a role model cause those who I look up to have accomplished far greater things than I have and I’ve got a long way to go, but if so, I’m honored and thank you. I just try to be me cause at the end of the day, you can’t change who you are so embrace it and make life enjoyable, you only have one.
Where do you get your fashion ideas?
I just like to be comfortable and feel confident in what I’m wearing so I guess I get them from whatever mood I’m in. Hugo Boss and Calvin Klein are the go to’s.
How do you manage to keep such a positive attitude all the time? Were you born optimistic or is it something you have to work on? by Tanya
Let me tell ya, I was born with an extremely negative attitude. I was the kid who wouldn’t smile in Christmas photos, was a poor sport, and hated alot of things. I eventually grew out of my negativity when I matured. I have to be optimistic now because when I let negativity enter my life I get so depressed and it’s a downward spiral from there. You have to find the things that you are happy about and focus on that.
Can you tell us something we might not already know about you? by janfan92
When I was a kid, I had boundary issues. So I would always check my neighbors mail for them and walk in to people’s houses unannounced and take food from their refrigerators and just walk back to my house like nothing had happened. I remember it like it was yesterday. I was a riot.
How do you handle all the rumors surrounding your personal life? Does it affect you or do you pay no attention to it?
I don’t really pay attention to the rumors cause at the end of the day, that’s exactly what they are. Anyone can go online and write anything they want about people they don’t even know and most of the time, that is fueled by hate. The sad part is that people actually believe what they read online. Alot of people are more interested in wondering if Beyonce is pregnant or who Taylor Swift is dating instead of recognizing them for their hard work and talent. It sucks. Work is work and what I’ve done thus far has gotten me to where I am today and I’m thankful for that.
We’d like to thank you again for taking the time to answer our questions! Is there anything you’d like to say to your fans?
Thank you to EVERYONE who sent in their questions and to those that have followed what I’ve been doing thus far! Your support is appreciated. You guys are always so great and it means alot! Thanks ColtonHaynesCom for the interview! Stay well!
